Inter President Beppe Marotta has stated that the club is committed to an approach of “evolution and not revolution” for the future of their squad. This winning season, he explained, was achieved by building upon existing foundations, a strategy they intend to continue.
The Nerazzurri are set to celebrate a successful season, having secured both the Scudetto and their 10th Coppa Italia title by defeating Lazio 2-0. This marks their first Double since the memorable 2010 season under Jose Mourinho, which also included a Champions League triumph.
The current success stands in contrast to the previous season, which ended without silverware. The appointment of coach Cristian Chivu, who had limited senior management experience in Serie A prior to joining, was an unexpected move that has evidently paid off.
Marotta Highlights Inter’s Steady Progress
“There is a team on the field and one off it too, made up of the management and all those who work behind the scenes for the club, so I want to thank all of them tonight. It really is a team sport and everyone gave their contribution,” Marotta told Sport Mediaset.
“We are happy, there have been a series of positive results in recent years, and it starts from the top with the club owners. This is the model that can take us towards victory. We sometimes lose too, and last year did leave a mark, but Chivu did well to get us back on track.”
“There are some small regrets over the Champions League this term, but you also have to give credit to the opponents.”
The only setback this season was their elimination from the Champions League play-offs by Bodo/Glimt in February, which ultimately allowed Inter to concentrate their efforts on domestic competitions.
Looking ahead, Inter is reportedly planning several transfers, but the overarching philosophy remains to build upon the existing strong foundation.
“I am very optimistic, albeit respectful of our opponents. We believe in evolution and not revolution, so young players like Petar Sucic require time to get settled and develop,” Marotta concluded.
“We will continue to identify talented young players whom we can help to grow, combining them with experienced figures who have the winning mentality already ingrained.
“There’s no need to change all that much. Unfortunately, some players are coming to the end of their contracts, and this is a physiological issue; we cannot fight time. We are ready to again gradually introduce young players; there is no need for a revolution.”
Players such as Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Yann Sommer, and Matteo Darmian are among those whose contracts with Inter are nearing their conclusion.
