Sassuolo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric has revealed his inner conviction when facing Manuel Locatelli’s penalty, alongside a “much more difficult” earlier save, which ultimately secured a vital 1-1 draw against Juventus.
The evening in Turin was fraught with challenges even before kick-off. Sassuolo arrived severely depleted, missing four injured players. Additionally, Nemanja Matic, Kristian Thorstvedt, Woyo Coulibaly, and Stefano Turati were sidelined after developing symptoms of whooping cough.
This highly contagious respiratory illness had swept through the squad, creating an exceptionally difficult situation for the team to manage.
Despite these significant setbacks, Sassuolo rallied, responding to Kenan Yildiz’s opener with an equalizer from Andrea Pinamonti. Then, in a pivotal late moment, Muric emphatically denied Locatelli from the spot, preserving the draw.
Muric and Sassuolo Secure a Vital Point
“I believe the team performed exceptionally well. It was all about energy today, and we brought it precisely when needed. We also generated numerous chances, so I genuinely think we earned the right to take a point home,” Muric commented to Sky Sport Italia.
This penalty miss marked Juventus’s third consecutive failure from the spot in Serie A, following previous errors by Kenan Yildiz and Jonathan David. When asked about his thoughts as Locatelli stepped up, Muric reflected,
“It was purely a feeling. The moment he struck the ball, I had a strong sense I would save it. I felt utterly confident. Interestingly, the header from Milik earlier in the game was a far tougher save, but I managed to keep that out too, making it a truly great day overall.”
Sassuolo captain Domenico Berardi also praised Muric for his standout performance, which earned him the Serie A Man of the Match award.
“Aro has been incredibly supportive for us for quite some time now; he possesses immense qualities and has been consistently impressive,” Berardi told Sky Sport Italia.
