Gimenez Returns to Milan Training After 133-Day Injury Layoff
AC Milan's star centre-forward, Santiago Gimenez, has finally rejoined first-team training, marking his return after a significant 133-day absence due to an ankle injury that saw him miss 19 Serie A matches.
Santiago Gimenez Back on the Pitch for Milan
The Mexican international, who made a €35 million move from Feyenoord to the Rossoneri last January, had been sidelined since Milan's 1-1 draw with Atalanta in late October. His ankle injury necessitated surgery, which he underwent in December.
Before his injury, Gimenez was a regular, participating in all nine of Milan's initial Serie A fixtures, starting eight. However, his recovery period caused him to miss 19 league games, as well as one Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italiana match.
Renowned journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that the Mexico striker rejoined his Rossoneri teammates for full training on Tuesday.
This return coincides with the squad's first training session after a day off on Monday, following their triumphant Derby della Madonnina victory over league leaders Inter on Sunday.
While his immediate re-entry into the starting XI for Sunday's Serie A clash against Lazio is improbable, there's speculation he might join the traveling squad or at least be considered for the home fixture against Torino the subsequent weekend.
With Gimenez's return, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is now the sole Milan player sidelined due to injury.
