Napoli confirms Meret and Alisson injury details after Arsenal defeat

Napoli has provided clarity on the injuries sustained by goalkeeper Alex Meret and attacker Alisson Santos during their recent 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the Champions League. The club also announced that Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa has rejoined team training and is available for selection this weekend.

Napoli suffered a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at the Stadio Maradona, with a late strike from Martin Odegaard proving decisive. The loss was compounded by the mid-game injuries to their first-choice goalkeeper and a key attacker during their opening Champions League fixture of the 2026-27 season.

The club has since issued an official statement detailing the injuries: Meret has a low-grade adductor strain in his left thigh, while Alisson has a medium-grade hamstring injury. Specific return dates have not yet been determined, but there is optimism that the growing list of injured players might begin to clear up by the end of the September-October international break, according to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio.

Currently, Napoli is also without Scott McTominay, the 2024-25 Serie A MVP, who is recovering from a minor procedure to address a benign heart arrhythmia. He is also expected to be back in contention following the upcoming international break.
