Fikayo Tomori has openly expressed his strong desire to be part of England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup in North America. Despite his personal ambitions, he also conveyed his empathy for the Italian national team and his former teammate Sandro Tonali, stating, “I supported them in Bosnia, I was convinced they could do it.”
Currently, Tomori is nearing the end of the Serie A season with AC Milan, with a crucial match against fourth-placed Juventus on the horizon. Milan, sitting second, are striving to secure their pre-season objective of qualifying for the Champions League.
Following the conclusion of the domestic season, the focus will shift to the 2026 World Cup, where Tomori’s England will be considered strong contenders. Tomori, who has earned six caps for England, acknowledges that his place in the World Cup squad is not guaranteed. He was included in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the March international break, earning his first cap in nearly three years during a 1-1 draw against Uruguay. However, Tuchel did concede that Tomori’s call-up was partly due to an injury to Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.
Nevertheless, Tomori is determined to secure a spot in the England World Cup squad based on his own merits. “I have hope and the desire to play at the World Cup. I will give everything in this final part of the season to make it happen,” the Milan defender shared in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Tomori also extended his sympathies to the Italian national team and his former Milan teammate Sandro Tonali following their World Cup play-off final defeat at the end of March. “I’m sorry for your national team and for Tonali, who is my friend. I supported the Azzurri in Bosnia and I was convinced that they could do it,” he added.
