Recent reports from Italy suggest that AC Milan may be considering Ian Ayre, a former executive at Liverpool, to succeed Giorgio Furlani as the club’s Chief Executive Officer. Additionally, Lee Congerton, another British figure, is reportedly in contention for the sporting director role.
Following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, AC Milan undertook a significant overhaul of its senior management team. The club experienced a dramatic downturn in form during the latter half of the season, ultimately failing to secure Champions League qualification despite spending considerable time in second place.
Consequently, AC Milan confirmed the departures of head coach Massimiliano Allegri, CEO Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada. This announcement was made in a swift and decisive statement on the Monday after the season ended.
Reports emerging on Tuesday indicate that Andoni Iraola and Xavi are among the leading initial candidates for the head coach position at Milan.

According to information from Gianluca Di Marzio, Ayre is being considered as a potential candidate to become Milan’s new CEO. The 62-year-old is currently based in the United States, where he holds the position of vice-chair at Nashville SC, a role he has occupied since 2018.

Di Marzio also reports that Welshman Congerton, who is currently the sporting director at Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, is being considered as a potential replacement for Tare at Milan. Congerton possesses scouting and directorial experience with several UK clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Celtic, and Leicester. He also spent two seasons in Serie A with Atalanta between 2022 and 2024.
