Inter President Beppe Marotta has expressed his confidence that Alessandro Bastoni will continue his career at the club, despite reported interest from Barcelona. Marotta also outlined his strong desire for Inter to achieve success in the Champions League.
Speaking after Inter secured the Scudetto and Coppa Italia double under coach Cristian Chivu this season, Marotta looked towards the future. He indicated plans for an improved contract for Chivu and a focus on strengthening the existing squad.
Marotta Emphasizes Continuity with Bastoni
“This team possesses a strong foundation, a solid core built around players who have been with us for several years,” Marotta stated. “I’m referring to individuals like Lautaro Martinez, Nicolò Barella, and Alessandro Bastoni. It’s crucial for them to instill this winning mentality in our new signings as well.”
Addressing the persistent rumors linking Barcelona with Bastoni, Marotta was unequivocal about the defender’s future. “I believe so. Generally, we are not a club that sells its players. If a player departs, it’s usually because they have expressed a desire to move on,” Marotta explained.
“I must emphasize that Bastoni has absolutely no desire to leave. He is content here, and we have no need to sell. Therefore, I am confident he will remain with us.”
Inter has faced significant challenges in the Champions League recently, having reached two finals in the last three years only to be defeated by Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
“Winning the Scudetto as Inter President was a dream, but once that dream is realized, one must forge new ones. Our aim is to achieve something extraordinary in Europe next season.”
“In sports, it’s essential to be ambitious without being arrogant. We intend to raise our objectives slightly higher. The Champions League represents a dream, born from my respect for our opponents and as a manager tasked with setting the team’s direction.
“We aspire to reach the Final for a third time. Having experienced four Final losses in my career, I hope the players can grant me the gift of winning the Champions League. I hope to lift that trophy before I retire.”
