Paolo Maldini has publicly addressed criticism from AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale and has not ruled out the possibility of a future role with Fenerbahce, stating, “We’ll see what happens.”
The iconic Italian footballer is currently contemplating his next career move after his unexpected dismissal as AC Milan’s technical director in the summer of 2023. He has been taking time off since then.
Maldini’s Stance on Cardinale’s Comments
Cardinale, the head of RedBird Capital Partners, had reportedly suggested that Maldini’s approach was too individualistic, describing him as a “one-man show” and not fitting the collaborative environment required at the club. Cardinale has indicated that a return to San Siro for Maldini is unlikely under these circumstances.
When questioned about Cardinale’s remarks by Tuttomercatoweb at a Sky Inclusion Days promotional event, Maldini simply responded with a shrug, stating, “I think that speaks for itself.”
Previously, the former defender had expressed that he would not consider working in Italian football unless it was for his beloved AC Milan, the club where he spent his entire playing career.
However, a new chapter in Maldini’s career could potentially unfold in Turkey. He has reportedly held several meetings with Hakan Safi, a candidate for the Fenerbahce presidency.
When asked about the possibility of a consultancy role with Fenerbahce in the future, Maldini commented on his relationship with Safi: “He is a friend and one of the candidates for the Presidency, so we’ll see what happens if he wins the elections.”
