Cesc Fabregas Declines Other Club Offers, Focused Solely on Como

Sport news

Cesc Fabregas has admitted to being approached by other clubs last summer but stated that he finds it “very difficult” to envision himself managing any Serie A team other than Como in the future.

The former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder has made a significant impact in his debut top-flight coaching campaign with Como. The team is currently performing strongly, contending for a Champions League spot and reaching the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

Fabregas received the prestigious Trofeo Bearzot award for his management skills. Speaking at the event, he addressed questions about his potential future at different Italian clubs.

“That would seem very unlikely, because I am very involved and attached to Como,” Fabregas responded. “It is true that I was contacted last year, but I decided to stay because I love this club. I am very happy with what I can do and what we are achieving at Como.”

He emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “The project is very important to me. I don’t want to seem presumptuous here, but I do this work purely for the passion, so I need to feel that I can do something new.”

Fabregas had previously been rumored to be a candidate for coaching positions at Inter Milan and Roma. However, when Como affirmed his contract and commitment, those clubs ultimately appointed Cristian Chivu and Gian Piero Gasperini respectively.

The Trofeo Bearzot award is named after Enzo Bearzot, the legendary coach who led Italy to their 1982 World Cup victory.

“When they told me I had won this award, I immediately started to study Bearzot’s history. This is an award for the city, for the owners and the whole club. We are a family, I mean that, and feel honoured to receive this award,” concluded Fabregas.
