While Chelsea appears poised to secure Marco Palestra from Atalanta for €60 million, reports suggest the Premier League club initially pursued Wesley from Roma.
It seemed Inter Milan was close to finalizing terms with Palestra, as Atalanta was prepared to accept an offer of €45 million plus €5 million in add-ons, with the player agreeing to personal terms of €2.5 million per season.
However, Chelsea unexpectedly entered the race, submitting a proposal of €55 million plus €5 million in bonuses and doubling the player’s salary to an estimated €5-6 million annually over five years.
Wesley Was Also on Chelsea’s Radar
According to Fabrizio Romano, new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso was actively scouting Serie A for winger reinforcements.
His initial request was for Wesley, who unfortunately had to withdraw from the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup due to an injury sustained in a friendly match.
Roma acquired Wesley from Flamengo just last year for €25 million plus €5 million in add-ons and had no intention of selling him so soon, especially after securing Champions League qualification.
