De Zerbi Employs Italian Team-Building Tradition at Struggling Tottenham

Sport news

Roberto De Zerbi is utilizing a traditional Italian team-building exercise with Tottenham Hotspur, even though a similar approach proved unsuccessful for Igor Tudor.

The Italian manager has become the third different head coach for Spurs during this challenging season. With the team currently in the Premier League relegation zone, De Zerbi is exploring all avenues to accelerate their cohesion.

De Zerbi Treats Tottenham Squad to Dinner

According to Telegraph Sport, De Zerbi recently took the entire squad out for a dinner at Bacchanalia restaurant in Mayfair. This practice is a common tactic in Italian football used to enhance team spirit, both during critical periods and throughout a season.

Italian coach Gennaro Gattuso also employed this method with his players when time for traditional training gatherings was limited.

Former coach of Juventus, Udinese, and Lazio, Tudor, also familiar with this approach from Serie A, attempted it with Tottenham in February. However, the results were limited, and he eventually parted ways with the club after failing to secure a single Premier League victory.

“My current role is not to coach a specific style, with or without the ball, but to try and provide the players with what they need in terms of mentality,” De Zerbi stated after his debut loss to Sunderland. “My philosophy is to build player confidence. During the week, they perform better because their minds are clear, but it’s different in a game. My task is to enable them to replicate their training-week performance in matches.”
