Gian Piero Gasperini stated he is not surprised by Bologna’s tactical approach and declined to comment on Claudio Ranieri’s departure from Roma, emphasizing his focus on the upcoming match.
The match is scheduled to begin at 17:00 UK time (18:00 CEST) at the Stadio Dall’Ara.
This encounter marks the first game following the dismissal of special advisor Ranieri, who had a public dispute with coach Gasperini. There are also indications that director of sport Ricky Massara might follow soon, as the Friedkin family fully supports the tactician in reshaping the squad to his vision. The pre-match interview being conducted by the coach, rather than Massara, further suggests this direction.
Gasperini Rejects Questions on Roma Sacking
Gasperini told DAZN Italia, “You continue asking me questions about things I am not involved in. I have never responded to anyone, I am fully focused on the game, and we just want to achieve the maximum result.”
Roma is still reeling from their elimination in the Europa League Round of 16 against Bologna, after a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Dall’Ara and a 3-3 result at the Stadio Olimpico. They were ultimately defeated 4-3 in extra time, exiting the all-Italian derby.
“We are up against a strong team, but if we have such a significant advantage over Bologna in the league table, it means we haven’t been doing too badly,” Gasperini added. “Bologna was in the Champions League last season, and we recently had two very balanced games against them, so we expect it to be tough and naturally very important.”
Vincenzo Italiano has surprisingly opted for a three-man defense tonight, a tactic he has employed during matches but rarely from the starting lineup. Gasperini commented, “The three-man defense is an option for almost all teams now; they can alternate between systems. We have faced teams that change their style before; it’s not an issue.”
