Fabio Grosso described feeling deeply ’emotional’ after witnessing his Sassuolo players deliver a ‘masterpiece’ in their 2-1 triumph over Como in Serie A. The Sassuolo manager conveyed his profound pride in his squad, stating, “I am proud of these guys, of what they have accomplished and what they will continue to achieve.”
Sassuolo secured their victory thanks to two rapid goals late in the first half from Cristian Volpato and M’Bala Nzola. Although Nico Paz managed to pull one back for Como just before the halftime whistle, Sassuolo held on to claim all three points.
Speaking after the match, Grosso shared his thoughts: “I told the lads that they made me emotional today; they put together a masterpiece. Playing this game against this opponent was not to be taken lightly, but we performed exceptionally well.”
He further elaborated on their strategic approach: “We identified the opportune moments within the game to execute effectively, so well done to the players. It has been a remarkable season so far, and now we must focus on recovery and rejuvenation. We anticipate facing challenging opponents who deliver top-tier performances.”
When questioned about the contributions of goalscorers Cristian Volpato and M’Bala Nzola, Grosso expressed his delight: “Extremely pleased. This is a group that trains diligently, and it is fitting to commend them for their pivotal roles. I am delighted with the individuals who work under me; collectively, we consistently strive for our best. We are achieving extraordinary results, and we aim to sustain this momentum, fully aware of the formidable opponents we will encounter.”
Regarding Cristian Volpato’s best position, Grosso noted: “I engage in frequent conversations with him. In my view, he possesses incredible potential. I have faith in him; he has truly outstanding qualities. While he may occasionally slow down the tempo, he demonstrates immense willingness. If he grasps how certain adjustments can be made, he can significantly influence games at the highest levels.”
Sassuolo now stands just five points shy of reaching a significant milestone of 50 points with five games remaining in the season.
“We have accomplished a great deal, rapidly and unexpectedly. It was not an easy commencement, but we subsequently regained our footing. We have achieved remarkable feats, navigating through several challenging periods, yet consistently maintaining our distinct identity. I am immensely proud of these players, of their past achievements, and of their future endeavors.”
