Inter’s Ambition: Targeting a 10th Coppa Italia Triumph

Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta is optimistic about the team’s prospects, aiming to secure both the Coppa Italia and complete a successful ‘double’ season with their 10th cup victory against Lazio. The squad is reportedly highly motivated for the upcoming final.

The highly anticipated Coppa Italia Final is scheduled to take place at the Stadio Olimpico, with kick-off at 20:00 UK time (21:00 CEST). The outcome of the 79th edition of the tournament will be determined within 90 minutes, potentially extending to extra time or a penalty shootout.

While Inter, the Nerazzurri, are on the cusp of a celebratory ‘double’ ahead of their Scudetto parade in Milan, Lazio, the Biancocelesti, view this match as a crucial opportunity to qualify for the Europa League and salvage their season.

Marotta and Inter’s Unwavering Ambition

“Playing in a Final is always an exhilarating moment where everyone feels their hard work has paid off,” stated Marotta in an interview. “We are passionate about this competition and aspire to achieve our 10th win, which would symbolically earn us another star. The team is exceptionally motivated for this challenge.”

This marks Inter’s 16th appearance in the Coppa Italia Final, having secured victory nine times and faced defeat in six previous finals. Their most recent triumph was in 2023. A 10th Coppa Italia win would, in theory, allow them to adorn their jersey with a silver star, analogous to the gold star awarded for every ten Serie A titles.

“While the official rules may not currently account for this, it would represent a symbolic star, a glittering achievement,” Marotta clarified regarding the potential star. Inter’s last Coppa Italia and Scudetto double was achieved under Jose Mourinho as part of their historic treble-winning season in 2010.

“This team has cultivated a strong bond over time, navigating both successes and setbacks, which has significantly bolstered their mental fortitude. Motivation is paramount in football, and these players have matured significantly throughout this journey, enabling them to perform on the grandest stage.”

“The Scudetto belongs to Cristian Chivu and the entire squad. The coach has played an instrumental role in his initial experience at a top club, demonstrating his quality and potential for further development.”

“Overcoming the so-called ‘provincial’ teams is a significant step towards claiming the title,” Marotta concluded.

Hakan Calhanoglu is sidelined due to injury but remains with the Inter squad on the bench to support his teammates. Marcus Thuram has recovered from a muscular issue and is set to start in the final.
