Italian manager Francesco Farioli, at the age of 37, has guided FC Porto to their Primeira Liga championship victory, outperforming Jose Mourinho’s Benfica.
A 1-0 win against Alverca this evening was sufficient to establish a nine-point lead at the summit of the standings, following Benfica’s 2-2 draw with Famalicao.
With only two rounds remaining, FC Porto’s title is now unassailable. This championship marks the club’s 31st league triumph and their first since their most recent success four years ago, breaking a streak of wins by Benfica and two consecutive titles for Sporting.
Farioli’s Inaugural Trophy
Farioli, an Italian tactician, began his coaching journey as a goalkeeping coach and assistant, notably working alongside Roberto De Zerbi at Benevento and Sassuolo.
He then embarked on his own managerial path in Turkish football with Fatih Karagumruk in 2021 and Alanyaspor, followed by stints with OGC Nice and Ajax.
FC Porto appointed him in July 2025. This season, he has overseen the team’s performance with 38 victories, eight draws, and five defeats across all competitions, while also reaching the Europa League quarter-finals.
This league title represents the first trophy of Farioli’s managerial career. He celebrated his 37th birthday last month.
