Lazio’s midfielder, Kenneth Taylor, has reportedly become the primary choice to fill the void left by Xavi Simons in the Dutch national team’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Simons, who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur, is anticipated to be sidelined for the tournament due to a severe knee injury. This unfortunate setback has prompted Dutch coach Ronald Koeman to explore alternative options for his squad.
According to reports from TuttoMercatoWeb, Taylor, who made the move to Lazio in January, is considered one of the most viable candidates. His successful adaptation to Serie A and his proficiency in both midfield and attacking positions make him a strong contender to step into the role vacated by Simons.

Taylor Faces Competition for Netherlands Spot from Other Talents
While several players like Ryan Gravenberch, Frenkie de Jong, and Cody Gakpo are considered certainties for the squad, leaving limited openings for other hopefuls, Taylor faces stiff competition from a pool of talented attacking and midfield players. Among those reportedly being considered are Justin Kluivert, Crysencio Summerville, Guus Til, Noa Lang, and Georginio Wijnaldum.
A call-up for Taylor would signify his return to the national team after an absence of over a year, with his last appearance in a Nations League fixture against Spain in March 2025.
Given the significant impact of Simons’ absence, Taylor’s recent performances in Italy could prove crucial in him securing a place in the Netherlands’ World Cup squad.
