The future of Leonardo Spinazzola at Napoli appears increasingly uncertain. The experienced left-back has yet to receive any indication from the club regarding an extension to his contract, which is set to expire in June. Consequently, his representatives have begun exploring alternative options, with AC Milan reportedly making contact in recent weeks.
Spinazzola played a crucial role in Napoli’s Scudetto victory last season, demonstrating versatility and providing energy across multiple positions under Antonio Conte. This season, he has continued to contribute, scoring three goals and providing three assists in 28 appearances.
Despite his contributions, the lack of communication from Napoli has become noticeable. It is understood that Napoli’s president, De Laurentiis, is looking to rejuvenate the squad, and at 33 years old, Spinazzola may not fit this profile. In response, his agent has proactively approached Milan about the possibility of signing the Italian international on a free transfer this summer, according to CalcioMercato reports.
Milan’s interest is logical, as they are likely to need a left-back option with Pervis Estupiñán’s short tenure at the club expected to conclude. However, while Milan has been made aware of the terms being offered, they have not yet made a formal move, and Spinazzola is not currently considered a top priority target.
A more intriguing prospect for Spinazzola could be a return to Juventus, where he began his youth career before leaving without establishing himself. Giorgio Chiellini, a close personal friend of the player, has been in contact with Spinazzola’s camp in recent days. However, these discussions are currently exploratory rather than concrete proposals.
Spinazzola himself would prefer to remain at Napoli, especially if Antonio Conte continues to manage the team. However, it seems increasingly unlikely that the decision will be his to make.
