Fabio Pisacane acknowledged that Cagliari was left “dazed” after conceding two rapid goals from Inter, which ultimately led to a 3-0 loss at San Siro. He also cautioned that securing their place in Serie A is far from guaranteed.
Despite effectively containing the league leaders for extended periods at San Siro, the Sardinian team conceded twice within a three-minute span, with goals from Marcus Thuram and Nicolò Barella. Piotr Zielinski’s powerful long-range strike in added time made the final scoreline appear harsher.
Pisacane observed Inter’s strength against Cagliari
“It’s natural that the double blow really knocked us down and we were dazed after that,” Pisacane stated to Sky Sport Italia. “Up until then, we were playing well, and we understood that even if we played perfectly, Inter would still pose problems. We’re up against the best team in Serie A, but the regret lies in how we could have handled the assist for the opening goal differently.”
“The challenge in Serie A is that every match is difficult. The games that seemed easier on paper are precisely the ones where we tended to falter. We must always be vigilant, and at the same time, recognize that, as was the case today, doing everything right isn’t necessarily sufficient.”
“We have to be realistic, continue to collect points wherever possible, and pursue our objective.”
This is Pisacane’s first season as a coach in Serie A. Although Cagliari still holds a comfortable margin above the relegation zone, they have suffered defeats in seven of their last ten matches.
“It has been an unusual campaign; we’ve faced numerous serious injuries, but we’ve tried to stay focused, play our football, and I believe we saw many young players impress tonight. I feel they will be the ones, guided by the experienced players, who can help us achieve our goal.”
Entering the weekend, Cagliari held a six-point advantage over the bottom three teams. However, this lead could be reduced if Cremonese or Lecce secure victories.
“It’s not over yet. If you look at the table, Torino had a similar number of points to us a few weeks ago, and now they are significantly ahead. Therefore, our next match will be a tricky one.”
