Wladimir Klitschko is expressing his sorrow over the passing of his former fiancée, actress Hayden Panettiere, and has pledged to keep her memory alive for their 11-year-old daughter, Kaya.

Panettiere, celebrated for her roles in "Heroes," "Nashville," and the "Scream" film series, passed away on August 16 at the age of 36. The official cause of her death has not yet been revealed.

Klitschko, a renowned former Ukrainian heavyweight boxing champion, shared a heartfelt tribute following Panettiere’s death. He acknowledged her significant place in his life and stressed that their daughter will grow up understanding her mother's affection and enduring impact. He also made a plea for the public to grant the family privacy during their period of mourning.

The actress and boxer first crossed paths in 2008 and began their romantic relationship the following year. Their union culminated in an engagement in 2013, and they welcomed their daughter, Kaya, in December 2014. Although the couple separated in 2018, they maintained a connection through their child.

Their relationship faced considerable challenges as Panettiere battled postpartum depression, addiction, and other personal struggles. In 2018, she made the difficult decision to entrust Kaya's primary custody to Klitschko, a choice she later described as one of the most painful experiences of her life, explaining that it was an act of love to ensure her daughter had a stable environment.

However, in interviews earlier this year, Panettiere spoke positively about her relationship with Klitschko and their cooperative approach to co-parenting. She indicated that they remained close and expressed gratitude for their ability to demonstrate to Kaya that separation does not signify a lack of love.

Despite living apart, Panettiere maintained a close bond with Kaya. Reports from earlier this year highlighted their strong relationship, characterized by consistent communication and visits from the actress to her daughter.

For Klitschko, Panettiere's passing represents a profound personal loss, coupled with the solemn responsibility of guiding their daughter through the grief of losing her mother.

This tragedy unfolds just months after Panettiere candidly revisited some of the most challenging periods of her life in her memoir, "This Is Me: A Reckoning." In the book and subsequent interviews, she reflected on motherhood, her struggles with addiction, her journey to recovery, and her complex emotions surrounding the decision to have Kaya live primarily with her father.

Panettiere's death has evoked widespread sorrow from her colleagues, friends, and admirers. For Klitschko, the immediate focus appears to be on safeguarding his daughter and ensuring that Kaya develops a deep and meaningful connection to the memory of her mother, whose life was cut short too soon.
