According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Romelu Lukaku has incurred a fine of €150,000 from Napoli, which amounts to 20% of his gross monthly salary. This development further solidifies the expectation of his departure from the club this summer.
Lukaku has returned to Naples from Belgium after an absence of over two weeks and held a meeting with club director Giovanni Manna on Monday. The club permitted Lukaku’s return to Antwerp but decided to withhold 20% of his monthly gross salary due to his unauthorized two-week absence.
Multiple sources, including TMW, suggest that Lukaku’s exit from Napoli this summer now appears to be inevitable. The striker’s agent, Federico Pastorello, was also present at the meeting and is reportedly tasked with finding a new club for his client, who has one year remaining on his contract at the Stadio Maradona.
The 32-year-old striker has had a challenging season, having suffered a significant muscle injury early on, which sidelined him for the initial part of the campaign. Lukaku has managed to score just one goal in seven appearances this season, without starting any matches.
While reports indicate that Lukaku did not meet with Antonio Conte on Monday, the striker is reportedly aiming to be fit for Napoli’s final three Serie A games of the season. He is expected to spend the next two weeks in Belgium to fully recover his fitness.
