Francesco Pio Esposito stated that he always dedicates his full effort when representing the Italy national team, emphasizing that their recent matches were not treated as mere friendlies.
The Inter Milan forward recently scored two consecutive goals in friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece, securing 1-0 victories for the Azzurri in both encounters.
Esposito Reflects on Italy’s Victory Against Greece
With these recent goals, Pio Esposito has now netted five goals in nine appearances for the Azzurri. This places him in a notable position, with only Giuseppe Meazza having scored more goals for the national team before reaching the age of 21.
“I am pleased with my goal and achieving this milestone, but it wasn’t my primary focus before the game,” the striker shared with Rai Sport, as reported by TMW.
“What makes me happiest is the win; this is a truly exceptional group.
“We approached these two games with a strong desire to win, not as if they were just friendlies.”
Esposito had previously missed a penalty in a shootout against Bosnia and Herzegovina in March. In light of his recent successful goals, there was a question about his reconciliation with the national team.
“I always give my absolute best when I wear this jersey. Missing a penalty can happen, but it’s important to look forward. I’m glad these past two games went well, and I hope to continue this performance,” he concluded.
Pio Esposito rejoined Inter Milan last summer following a two-season loan spell at Spezia in Serie B.
The 20-year-old had a productive 2025-26 season with the Nerazzurri, scoring ten goals and providing six assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.
His current contract at the Stadio Meazza is set to expire in June 2030.
