Serie A | Juventus 2-0 Bologna: Juventus Secures Comfortable Victory

Sport news

Juventus secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Bologna, thanks to goals from Jonathan David and Khephren Thuram. This win extends Juventus’ lead in fourth place to five points and brings them within three points of AC Milan and Napoli, who are jointly in second.

The Bianconeri were keen to capitalize on dropped points by Napoli, Como, and Roma. However, Kenan Yildiz was only fit for the bench, with several key players like Arkadiusz Milik, Dusan Vlahovic, Juan Cuadrado, Mattia Perin, and Vasilije Adžić sidelined due to injury. Weston McKennie returned from suspension. Bologna, still recovering from a 4-0 Europa League defeat to Aston Villa, were without Łukasz Skorupski, Thijs Dallinga, Nicolò Casale, and Benjamin Dominguez.

A poignant pre-match tribute was held for Alex Manninger, the former Juventus and Bologna goalkeeper who tragically passed away at the age of 48. Former teammates Gigi Buffon, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Claudio Marchisio, and Antonio Chimenti laid flowers and Manninger’s shirt on the goal line as fans chanted his name.

Juventus made a rapid start to the game. Within 110 seconds, Jonathan David headed home a Pierre Kalulu cross from close range, giving Juventus the lead. This was a notable achievement, as Bologna had not conceded in the first half of a Serie A match for two months.

Francisco Conceição appeared to double the lead in the 12th minute after running onto a through ball, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Tommaso Pobega fired wide from distance, and Federico Ravaglia made a crucial one-on-one save against Conceição.

Emil Holm, playing against his parent club, struck the underside of the crossbar with a powerful volley. David also came close to scoring his second before halftime, his angled shot skimming the far post after a pass from Conceição.

In the second half, Riccardo Orsolini registered Bologna’s first real chance, his shot from the right flank flashing narrowly across the goal. However, Juventus substitute Khephren Thuram immediately made an impact, rising at the back post to convert a Weston McKennie cross, extending the lead to 2-0.

Bologna almost pulled a goal back when Nadir Zortea’s cross found substitute Jonathan Rowe, whose close-range shot hit the upright.

Nikola Moro fired over the bar after Orsolini’s attempt was blocked. Federico Bernardeschi was forced off with a thigh problem just eight minutes after coming on. With all their substitutions made, Bologna finished the match with ten men.

Despite being a man down, Rowe still managed a dangerous counter-attack, but his cross narrowly missed an unmarked Orsolini.
