Como Nears Deal for Mattia Liberali, Eyes Trevoh Chalobah
Como's Sporting Director, Carlalberto Ludi, has confirmed that the club is in "an advanced stage" of negotiations for Mattia Liberali. He also described Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah as "a very strong player," with Como preparing a new €35 million bid.
After recently competing in Serie B, Como is now gearing up for the Champions League following an impressive fourth-place finish in Serie A and reaching the Coppa Italia semi-finals. The club is making significant investments in its squad to support coach Cesc Fabregas, including signing more Italian players to meet specific requirements.
Como Prepares for Liberali and Chalobah Arrivals
Speaking at a charity event, Ludi addressed the reported €6 million deal for Catanzaro midfielder Liberali. "We are at a pretty advanced stage for Liberali. We want to sign him, he is an Italian talent, and we got him because we think he has the ideal characteristics to fit Cesc’s style of football," Ludi stated.
Despite Milan reportedly offering Liberali higher wages, it's understood that the player is keen on the opportunity to work with Cesc Fabregas at Como.
Como is also reportedly in competition with Inter for Chelsea defender Chalobah. Following the rejection of their initial two offers, Como is expected to increase their bid to €30 million plus €5 million in add-ons next week. Ludi commented on Chalobah, stating, "Chalobah is a very strong player."
While not a new signing, Nico Paz was permanently acquired from Real Madrid for €60 million after a two-year loan spell, though Real Madrid retains an option to buy him back for €80 million next summer. Ludi expressed pride in securing players like Fabregas and Paz, acknowledging, "It is not to be taken for granted that a coach like Fabregas and a player like Nico Paz want to stay at Como, so that makes us very proud. We aren’t yet ready for the Champions League, but we’ll roll our sleeves up to make sure we’re prepared when the time comes."
