Thiago Motta Eyed for Fiorentina Coaching Role in 2026-27 Season

Sport news

Fiorentina is in the market for a new manager, and Thiago Motta has emerged as the latest name linked with the position. This follows earlier discussions involving director Fabio Paratici, who had also considered Maurizio Sarri and Fabrizio Grosso for the role.

Under the current guidance of Paolo Vanoli, who took the reins when the team was struggling at the bottom of Serie A, Fiorentina has managed to climb out of the relegation zone. They now hold an eight-point advantage over the bottom three teams.

Despite this improvement, it is widely anticipated that Vanoli will not be offered a contract extension beyond the current season, as the club appears to have more ambitious coaching plans for the upcoming term.

Fiorentina Considering Thiago Motta as a Coaching Option

Fabrizio Grosso, the current Sassuolo coach, remains a leading candidate and has been identified as the ideal choice by several Italian news outlets. Maurizio Sarri is another strong contender, particularly given his reported difficulties with Lazio’s management. A move for Sarri would also represent a return to his roots, having grown up in the vicinity of Fiorentina’s Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Thiago Motta has recently been mentioned as a new possibility by Calciomercato. Motta has been out of management this season, following his dismissal from Juventus in March 2025. His prior coaching experience includes spells at Genoa, Spezia, and notably Bologna, where he successfully guided the team to Champions League qualification.

Thiago Motta targeted for Fiorentina job in 2026-27

Fiorentina are looking for a new coach and Thiago Motta is the latest candidate, after Maurizio Sarri and Fabrizio Grosso were floated by director Fabio Paratici.

The Viola have climbed out of the danger zone under Paolo Vanoli, who took over when they were propping up the Serie A table and is now eight points clear of the bottom three.

However, few expect him to be offered the job beyond the end of the season, as they have far more ambitious plans for next term.

Fiorentina see Thiago Motta among options

The favourite remains current Sassuolo coach Grosso, who has been named as the ideal candidate by several different news sources in Italy.

Sarri is another strong contender, especially as he has problems with the Lazio directors, and it would be a homecoming because he grew up in the shadow of the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

A new option mentioned by Calciomercato is Thiago Motta, who took this season off after his dismissal by Juventus in March 2025.

His previous jobs were at Genoa, Spezia and above all Bologna, who he took to Champions League qualification.
