The UFC, in collaboration with its Official Fan Technology Partner, Meta, is introducing Meta UFC Rankings, a revolutionary new system for evaluating athletes. This data-driven approach aims to provide an objective perspective on the sport’s competitive landscape for fans, athletes, and media alike. This initiative builds on Meta and UFC’s shared dedication to enhancing the fan experience through cutting-edge technology.
Beginning June 22, 2026, the UFC will transition from its long-standing media panel for official rankings to the Meta UFC Rankings. This innovative method will exclusively use fight data to determine rankings. Both organizations worked closely to develop a methodology that ensures an objective and transparent ranking system that fans and athletes can trust and understand.
“I’ve always been dissatisfied with the current rankings and believed there had to be a superior method,” stated UFC President and CEO Dana White. “As a company that embraces technology and innovation, we’ve partnered with Meta to integrate these advancements directly into our ranking system. I’m eager to see how this innovation will positively impact the sport for both fans and athletes.”
“I’m thrilled to collaborate with Dana and the UFC on building a system that analyzes fighter performance at a more profound level, contributing to more transparent and precise rankings,” commented Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The Meta UFC Rankings will be automatically calculated and updated by the Monday following each official UFC event. The system employs a blend of statistical modeling and machine learning, combined with the UFC’s deep domain expertise, to assess individual athlete rankings. It evaluates a comprehensive array of objective metrics, including factors such as the probability of an outcome, the type of win, a fighter’s recent performance trends, and weight-class specific sensitivities.
Not all wins and losses will be weighted equally. Under the Meta UFC Rankings, defeating a higher-ranked opponent will carry more significance than overcoming a lower-ranked one. Similarly, a decisive finish against a Top 5 ranked contender will be a stronger indicator than a close decision win over an unranked opponent. The system also factors in the recency of fights, giving more weight to recent bouts while penalizing fighters for extended periods of inactivity. By relying solely on measurable fight data, Meta UFC Rankings ensure that a fighter’s placement accurately reflects their genuine competitive performance within the Octagon, with no other considerations.
Through the implementation of these advanced metrics, Meta UFC Rankings will provide the most consistent and clear assessment of fighter standings available today. This consistent, data-informed methodology is designed to encourage greater fan engagement and discussion, offering a neutral and sophisticated benchmark for comparing the world’s elite athletes.
