A potential midfield shuffle is brewing in Serie A as Atalanta express interest in signing Cagliari’s Gianluca Gaetano. In a reciprocal move, Cagliari are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing in Inter’s Kristjan Asllani as a replacement.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, clubs across Serie A are actively seeking to strengthen their squads, and midfield reinforcements are a key focus for many.
Atalanta Target Gaetano Amidst Squad Changes
Atalanta, under their new coach Maurizio Sarri, are undergoing squad adjustments. Gaetano is said to be one of the players Sarri has identified as a key target for the upcoming season.
According to Sky Sport Italia, negotiations are expected to take place imminently between Atalanta and Cagliari representatives to discuss a potential agreement. While there remains a financial gap between Atalanta’s offer of €12 million and Cagliari’s valuation of €18 million, a compromise around €15 million could be reached.
Should Gaetano make the move to Atalanta, Cagliari will be in need of a midfield replacement. They are understood to be close to securing a €5 million deal for Swiss international Michel Aebischer from Pisa.
Another option being considered by Tuttomercatoweb for Cagliari is Kristjan Asllani. The Albanian midfielder is set to return to Inter after loan spells with Torino and Besiktas. Cagliari would likely pursue a loan deal for Asllani, potentially with an option to buy.
