Vincenzo Italiano’s tenure at Bologna is drawing considerable attention from other prominent clubs within Italian football. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has indicated that a number of major teams are keenly observing the coach, even though his current contract with Bologna extends until 2027.
Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel prior to Bologna’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Aston Villa, highlighted the context of Italiano’s situation. Italiano recently committed to Bologna by renewing his contract in May 2025, with an annual salary exceeding €3 million. This suggests a stable future at the club on paper.
However, Romano introduced a crucial point: “Italiano at Bologna, yes, but with an asterisk. He is highly regarded by several important Italian clubs.”

Key Serie A Managerial Moves Could Open Doors for Italiano
Romano emphasized the potential for a “domino effect on managerial positions,” referencing the significant shifts happening across Serie A benches. With many top clubs facing uncertainty regarding their coaching appointments for the upcoming summer, Italiano’s name is reportedly among the first considered should unexpected vacancies arise.
Since taking the helm at Bologna in the summer of 2024, Italiano has overseen the team in 45 wins, 27 draws, and 28 losses. His Bologna side has scored 144 goals and conceded 119, averaging 1.62 points per game.
The team’s run to the Europa League quarter-finals is a notable accomplishment, particularly for a club with Bologna’s resources. This ability to consistently overperform is precisely what makes Italiano an attractive prospect for clubs with greater ambitions and financial capabilities.
