Fabio Capello is predicting an Inter Milan victory in the upcoming Coppa Italia final. The renowned former coach, who has managed Italy, Milan, and Juventus, acknowledged that Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio will present a formidable challenge, especially given the final’s venue at the Stadio Olimpico, which is Lazio’s home ground.
Writing for La Gazzetta dello Sport, Capello expressed his admiration for Inter’s recent performances, suggesting that the Nerazzurri have rediscovered their peak form. He highlighted the resurgence of key players like Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu as crucial to the club’s renewed dominance.
In contrast, Capello noted that Como seemed to lack the necessary experience for this level of competition, with their youthfulness being a disadvantage in their Coppa Italia semi-final match.
Capello Favors Inter in Coppa Italia Final
With the Serie A title all but secured, Capello believes Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s side can fully concentrate on preparing for the final. However, he did point out a potential distraction: “The only real danger is that minds drift towards the World Cup given the long wait ahead,” he remarked, referring to the upcoming summer tournament that will involve several Inter players.
Regarding Lazio’s chances, Capello offered a more measured perspective. He admitted that Sarri’s squad might be lacking in depth and overall quality compared to Inter. Nevertheless, he identified two crucial factors that could level the playing field.
“Sarri has shown he knows how to defend, but the final will be different,” Capello stated, implying that a Coppa Italia final requires more than just a defensive strategy. He emphasized the significant advantage Lazio will have with their home crowd: “The Lazio supporters will be proudly present and that counts for a great deal.”
Capello’s final assessment was clear: Inter should emerge victorious, provided they field their strongest lineup. He cautioned that any significant absences on the day would make bridging the gap between the two teams considerably more difficult.
