Como President Mirwan Suwarso has issued a public apology for the unsportsmanlike conduct displayed by some of the club’s supporters during their recent 4-3 Serie A loss to Inter Milan. He emphasized that the club’s integrity hinges on mutual respect, stating that individuals who fail to uphold this principle will not be welcomed.
The 4-3 defeat against league leaders Inter Milan resulted in Como losing their position in the Serie A top four. They are now two points behind Juventus in the Champions League qualification spots with six league matches remaining in the season.
Beyond the disappointment of the match outcome, President Suwarso expressed his frustration with the disrespectful behavior exhibited by certain sections of the home crowd towards Inter’s directors and staff. He conveyed this sentiment through a statement on his personal Instagram profile, condemning those who hurled insults.
Although not explicitly named by Suwarso, Italy international Nicolo Barella, who previously had a brief loan spell at Como in 2016, was reportedly met with loud booing from the home supporters during the game.
In his statement, Suwarso wrote, “Despite the final result, I am incredibly proud of our team. They gave everything on the pitch and fought with true honor. This is the spirit that defines us.”
He continued, “However, pride in our performance cannot outweigh my disappointment with the behavior shown by some in the ‘tribuna d’onore’ (honorary stand) toward the opposing delegation. I understand that football brings intense emotion, but we must never lose sight of who we are.”
Suwarso stressed that Como is a club built on dignity, and this dignity must extend beyond the field to opponents, their supporters, and especially their directors and executives, who are considered guests and deserve respect.
“Mockery and insults in the ‘tribuna d’onore’ do not represent the club we are building. They undermine the very values we stand for,” he stated.
He concluded by assuring that the club will work to uphold these values consistently and will take necessary steps to ensure this standard is respected. “Our club’s integrity, and the progress of the league as a whole, depend on mutual respect. Those who fail to uphold this will not be welcome. Let us grow together, with dignity, with integrity, on and off the field.”
