Inter Milan were held to a 2-2 draw by Torino, narrowing their lead at the top of Serie A to 10 points. Despite this, the Nerazzurri might still be able to celebrate securing the Scudetto next week without needing to step onto the pitch.
Inter had been on course for a victory at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, leading 2-0 with goals from Marcus Thuram and Yann Bisseck. Had this result stood, they would have only needed one point from their remaining four matches to mathematically clinch the Serie A title.
However, Torino managed to fight back, with Giovanni Simeone and Nikola Vlasic scoring late goals to secure a 2-2 draw.
Despite the dropped points, the Scudetto could be secured next weekend without any further action from Inter.
When Inter Can Clinch the Title
The Serie A title is guaranteed for Inter if they defeat Cristian Chivu’s former club, Parma, next Sunday evening at San Siro. This would be a fitting stage for such a crowning moment.
However, Inter could potentially be celebrating their league triumph even before their match kicks off.
If AC Milan loses to Juventus tonight (or against Sassuolo next week), and Napoli also suffers a defeat away to Como on Saturday, it would become mathematically impossible for either of these teams to overtake the current league leaders.
