Reports from Italy suggest that Inter Milan and Liverpool are making headway in negotiations for English midfielder Curtis Jones. While a deal is moving closer, certain aspects, such as the specifics of a potential sell-on clause, still need to be finalized.
Negotiation Status Between Inter and Liverpool for Curtis Jones
Inter Milan, having secured a double title, is actively preparing for the summer transfer window and aims to strengthen their midfield. Curtis Jones from Liverpool and Manu Kone from Roma are among the players reportedly of interest to the Milan club.
Jones, a product of Liverpool’s academy since the age of nine, has accumulated 228 appearances for the senior team, including 153 in the Premier League. As he enters the final year of his contract at Anfield, recent reports indicate a potential move in the upcoming months.
Inter’s previous attempt to sign Jones during the January transfer window was unsuccessful. However, current updates suggest the Nerazzurri have reopened discussions. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Jones is now the club’s primary target for the midfield, even ahead of Manu Kone.
Despite Jones’s contract situation, Liverpool is reportedly seeking a transfer fee between €30 million and €35 million. Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport indicates that Inter is prepared to offer approximately €22 million, potentially rising to €25 million with bonuses.
The Pink Paper also reports that a meeting between representatives from Inter and Liverpool took place in Monte Carlo on Wednesday. While no definitive agreement was reached, there are positive indications that both parties are moving closer to a deal.
Beyond the transfer fee, another point of contention for Inter is the size of a sell-on clause for Jones. Inter would prefer to minimize this clause, but Liverpool is reportedly seeking a larger percentage of any future transfer fee if they are to consider lowering their current asking price.
