Lorenzo Venturino Out of Italy Squad, Tommaso Berti Called Up

Sport news

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has officially announced that AS Roma’s Lorenzo Venturino will not be participating in the upcoming international friendlies in June. Cesena’s 22-year-old midfielder, Tommaso Berti, has been selected to fill the vacant spot in the squad.

Italy, under the temporary management of interim head coach Silvio Baldini, is scheduled to play away matches against Luxembourg on June 3 and Greece on June 7. Baldini, who typically coaches Italy’s U21 team, has primarily selected players familiar with his youth development system. Out of the 24 players named, only Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marco Palestra, Niccolo Pisilli, and Pio Esposito have previous senior international caps.

Venturino, a 19-year-old talent from Roma, was initially part of Baldini’s selection. However, his withdrawal is attributed to an unspecified understanding between his club, Roma, and the national team. Fortunately, four additional players had been training with the squad at Coverciano in the preceding days, and among them was Berti, who has now been officially integrated into the 24-man roster.

The FIGC also confirmed that Dominic Vavassori and Gabriele Guarino, two of the four training players, will return to their respective clubs. Nicolo Fortini will continue to train with the Italy squad until June 2.
