Sarri Set to Join Atalanta After Lazio Contract Termination

Sport news

Reports indicate that Lazio and Maurizio Sarri have agreed to end their coaching contract. This development positions Sarri to take over as the head coach of Atalanta, succeeding Raffaele Palladino.

Sarri is expected to depart Lazio after just one season, which concluded with the team finishing ninth in Serie A in the 2025-26 season.

He is slated to become the new head coach at Atalanta, where he will work with recently appointed director Cristiano Giuntoli. Sarri and Giuntoli previously enjoyed successful periods together at Napoli. This reunion is believed to be a significant factor in Sarri’s decision to join Atalanta, rather than Napoli, who are also seeking a replacement for Antonio Conte.

According to the latest information, Lazio and Sarri have reached a mutual agreement for the early termination of his contract, with the final details of his departure from Lazio expected to be settled soon.

Sarri is currently contracted with Lazio for an additional two years, until the summer of 2028. Former Italy national team coach Gennaro Gattuso is being considered as Sarri’s successor at Lazio.

Meanwhile, Atalanta still needs to finalize arrangements with Raffaele Palladino. It is understood that Atalanta’s financial resources are currently strained due to ongoing payments for their previous head coach, Ivan Juric.
