Chalobah: 'Fabregas Really Wanted Me' at Como, An Emotional Farewell from Chelsea

Trevoh Chalobah has shared an emotional goodbye to Chelsea, marking the end of his 18-year association with the club. He revealed that Cesc Fabregas played a significant role in convincing him to join Como, stating, "He showed how much he wanted me."

Now 27 years old and fresh from securing a bronze medal with England at the 2026 World Cup, Chalobah is embarking on a new chapter in Serie A with Como. The transfer is valued at €30 million, with additional add-ons, and he has signed a contract through June 2031.

Speaking to the official Como website, Chalobah highlighted the direct impact of his former Chelsea teammate, Cesc Fabregas, who is now the manager at Como's Stadio Sinigaglia, in making the move happen.

"The call with Cesc was really good, he showed how much he wanted me," Chalobah stated. "Knowing Cesc, obviously, he's been at Chelsea, and I trained with him when I was younger. Now, obviously, to play under him will be amazing. For sure, I'll give it my all. I'm excited for this new journey."

This move also signifies the end of an era for Chalobah, who joined the Chelsea academy at the age of eight and progressed all the way to the senior squad.

In a heartfelt social media post, he reflected on his journey: "An 8-year-old boy walked through those doors. A man walks out. Dream lived. Purpose fulfilled. To every academy player at Chelsea: keep believing. Your time will come. Never give up."

He continued, "After 18 years, it's time to say goodbye to Chelsea. I arrived as a nine-year-old with a dream, and I leave as a man who’s lived that dream in ways I never imagined. This journey tested me, lifted me, and strengthened me. To every teammate, coach, staff member, and supporter, thank you for shaping me. I gave everything I had, and I’m proud of the person this club helped me become."

Addressing aspiring young players, he added, "To the young players: the path won’t always be smooth. But stay ready, stay positive, and keep your faith. God’s timing is always right. Thank you all, truly, with love and gratitude."

Chalobah's career at Chelsea also included loan spells at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and Lorient, but he ultimately amassed over 150 competitive appearances for the Blues. He was also part of the squads that secured the 2021 UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the Conference League.
