Como Secures Historic 4-1 Champions League Victory Over Manchester United
Como celebrated a landmark night, dismantling Manchester United 4-1 in the Champions League. Nico Paz led the charge with two goals, supported by strikes from Tasos Douvikas and Jacobo Ramon.
This marked Como's debut in European competition, a journey that has already seen them defeat RB Leipzig 4-1 at home and narrowly lose 3-2 away to Feyenoord. The team faced numerous injuries, with Trevoh Chalobah, Moise Kean, Jesus Rodriguez, and Assane Diao sidelined. Maxence Caqueret was added to the UEFA list, and Lucas Da Cunha was deployed in an unfamiliar position.
Manchester United found themselves in a precarious situation, sitting 13th in the Premier League. Their recent form included three draws in six competitive matches, alongside a 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid. Leny Yoro was suspended, and Benjamin Sesko, Marcus Rashford, Patrick Dorgu, Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, and Manuel Ugarte were injured. Former Roma and Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt made his first start since November 2025.
Diogo Dalot missed an early chance after an Alex Valle slip. However, Como broke the deadlock within two minutes. Nico Paz received the ball inside the area, took a touch as Harry Maguire retreated, and curled a stunning left-footed shot into the top corner for his first Champions League goal.
Maguire's header from a corner went wide, and he later made a crucial sliding tackle on Martin Baturina inside the penalty box.
Baturina's precise pass set Tasos Douvikas through, forcing a challenging save from Senne Lammens at the near post. The Greek international later scuffed a shot when sent clear by Yan Couto.
Como thought they should have had a penalty before halftime when Lammens fouled Douvikas, but an offside call saved Manchester United. Douvikas was also flagged offside on the rebound from Baturina's shot.
Amad Diallo was introduced for Manchester United at halftime, but Como deservedly doubled their lead. Baturina found Nico Paz, whose pass released Douvikas to confidently finish past the advancing Lammens from 15 yards, marking his third Champions League goal in as many games.
Como nearly made it 3-0 shortly after, as Lucas Da Cunha cut inside Maguire and his shot narrowly missed the far top corner.
The pressure continued, and Nico Paz capitalized on a midfield error by substitute Carlos Baleba, driving forward and rounding Lammens to complete his brace.
Nico Paz continued to press for a hat-trick, forcing a save from the edge of the box. Amad Diallo's effort lacked clean contact from a Bruno Fernandes cross, and his subsequent strike was tipped over the bar by Jean Butez, Manchester United's first significant chance in the 65th minute.
Como sealed their dominant performance with a well-executed team goal. Alex Valle's cross found the unmarked Jacobo Ramon, who headed home from close range.
Nico Paz's pursuit of a hat-trick saw him force another save from Lammens. Amad Diallo's free-kick was the only other notable test for Butez.
In added time, Joshua Zirkzee controlled a Diallo pass and fired in a rebound shot, providing a late consolation for the traveling Manchester United supporters.
