Douglas Luiz Prefers Juventus Over Everton Move

According to Italian media, Everton has shown interest in signing Douglas Luiz from Juventus this summer. However, the Brazilian midfielder is resolute in his desire to remain with the Turin club, believing he has a role to play under coach Luciano Spalletti and is keen to win over the Juventus faithful.

Douglas Luiz joined Juventus in the summer of 2024 for a reported €50 million from Aston Villa. Despite a strong track record in the Premier League, his performances in Serie A did not immediately meet expectations. During his initial season, he made only 19 league appearances, averaging just 27 minutes per game.

Following a difficult debut season in Turin, Douglas Luiz was loaned to Nottingham Forest with an option to buy. However, after limited game time – just eight appearances in the first half of the 2025-26 season – the loan was terminated early, and he returned to Aston Villa for the remainder of that campaign.

Now back in Italy, Douglas Luiz has been given a fresh opportunity under new head coach Luciano Spalletti, who took charge while the player was on loan in the Premier League. Spalletti has included Luiz in all of Juventus's pre-season friendlies this summer.

The player himself has publicly expressed his commitment to staying at the club. "The work done over the last three weeks is making me understand things and allowing me to grow in training and in matches. I’m becoming convinced that I can stay at this club," Douglas Luiz stated in a recent interview.

Despite interest from other clubs, including a recent enquiry from Premier League side Everton, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Douglas Luiz's priority remains with Juventus. Even though the club has not yet made a final decision on his future, the player is adamant about staying for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Douglas Luiz joined Juventus in a €50m deal from Aston Villa in the summer of 2024, but despite an impressive string of performances in the Premier League prior to his Serie A switch, the Brazilian struggled to replicate the same form in Italy.

In the end, he made just 19 Serie A appearances across his first season, averaging just 27 minutes of action per outing.

After a disappointing first season in Turin, Douglas Luiz left Juventus to join Nottingham Forest on loan with an option to buy, but after making just eight appearances in the first half of the 2025-26 season, that loan deal was cut short and the Brazilian would go on to return to Aston Villa for the remainder of the season.

Now back in Italy, Douglas Luiz has been given another chance to audition in front of head coach Luciano Spalletti, who was appointed while the Brazilian was out on loan in the Premier League last season.

Spalletti has deployed Douglas Luiz in all of Juve’s pre-season friendlies this summer, and the player himself has recently made it clear that he wishes to stay at the club and prove himself in front of the supporters.

There are still clubs elsewhere that have registered an interest in Douglas Luiz this summer, and La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Premier League side Everton are the latest to lodge an enquiry.

Even if Juventus have not yet reached a definitive decision on Douglas Luiz’s future, the player is adamant that he wants to stay with Juventus for the 2026-27 season at least.
