Fiorentina Secures Radu Dragusin on Loan from Tottenham
Fiorentina has made a significant defensive acquisition, nearing the return of Radu Dragusin to Serie A from Tottenham. According to Fabrizio Romano, via CalcioMercato, a verbal agreement has been reached for the Romanian international to join on a loan basis, which includes an obligation to purchase.
The Florence-based club has reportedly agreed to terms for a paid loan of €1.5 million. The mandatory buy clause at the conclusion of the season is set at €17.5 million. This transfer will see Dragusin reunited with Fiorentina's sporting director, Fabio Paratici, who was instrumental in bringing the center-back to Tottenham from Genoa in 2024.
Dragusin's Italian Football Journey and Tottenham Stint
Dragusin's previous experience in Italian football began at Juventus. He progressed through their youth system and the Next Gen setup before reaching the first team, making his Champions League debut at the age of 18 against Dynamo Kyiv in December 2020. However, his time with Juventus was limited to just 232 minutes.
Following his spell at Juventus, he embarked on a series of loan moves to Sampdoria, Salernitana, and subsequently Genoa. It was with Genoa that his career truly flourished. Dragusin was a key player in Genoa's promotion campaign, which led to a permanent transfer. He then delivered impressive performances in Serie A during the latter part of 2023 and early 2024. These displays attracted the attention of several major clubs, with Tottenham ultimately winning the race against Bayern Munich.
His tenure in the Premier League proved more challenging than anticipated. A significant knee injury hampered his progress and limited his playing time. A return to Italy now presents an opportunity for him to rediscover his form. The inclusion of an obligation-to-buy clause indicates Fiorentina's long-term commitment to the player, provided the season unfolds as expected.
