FIGC President Giovanni Malagò has stated that he has developed "a Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C" for both the new Italy coach and technical director positions, advising against fixating on specific individuals.

While the election typically places the responsibility of hiring a new coach solely on him, Malagò has introduced a new role of technical director for Club Italia. This director is expected to play a significant role in the selection of the head coach (CT).

Paolo Maldini is reportedly the primary candidate for the technical director role, with Antonio Conte and Roberto Mancini being considered for the coaching position.

Malagò Remains Flexible on Italy's Key Roles

When questioned about the potential compatibility of Maldini and Conte, the President cautioned, "I wouldn’t get too fixated on certain names." He further elaborated, "There aren’t just a couple of candidates. In life, when time is short and there are significant issues to address, especially with looming deadlines, you need a Plan A, Plan B, and a Plan C as well."

Malagò anticipates announcing both the new technical director and the national team coach by the end of the following week. Beyond these appointments, the FIGC also faces the deadline of July 31 to submit a final list of five stadiums for co-hosting EURO 2032 with Turkiye. Malagò views this deadline positively, stating, "It is an opportunity for our country as a whole, and it is positive to have deadlines because major events compel swift action."
