Milan Dream of Liverpool Star Van Dijk, But Move Not Feasible as Club Eyes Lazio’s Gila
AC Milan reportedly harbors aspirations of signing Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, but such a transfer is deemed unrealistic, according to renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, as reported by MilanNews24, Romano dismissed speculation linking the Dutch defender with a move to San Siro.
Romano explained that Van Dijk is a vital component of Liverpool's future plans. He has already engaged in discussions with the new head coach, Andoni Iraola, which effectively rules out any potential transfer during the upcoming summer window.
Liverpool Stand Firm on Captain Van Dijk as Iraola Plans Rebuild
Romano emphasized that Van Dijk is considered a crucial figure at Anfield, highly valued for the leadership and stability he provides to the team.
Liverpool has consistently shown no inclination to part with their captain. This stance has only strengthened following the significant departures of experienced players like Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, which have already reduced the squad's experience.
Therefore, according to Romano, the conclusion is straightforward: Van Dijk will remain a Liverpool player. AC Milan will need to shift their focus to other defensive options.
This aligns with Milan's broader strategy of pursuing more attainable defensive targets. Lazio's Mario Gila is reportedly a primary objective, as new manager Ruben Amorim, who arrived in the city on Monday, begins to reshape the team's defense.
A player of Van Dijk's caliber was always more likely to be an aspirational target rather than a genuinely feasible option for AC Milan.
