Multiple Italian and English news outlets report that Tottenham Hotspur has successfully secured the signing of Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United. The transfer fee is reported to be an initial £92 million, with an additional £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons, establishing a new record for an Italian player.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the total value of this operation is expected to exceed €110 million, plus any add-ons, bringing it close to Newcastle United’s original asking price of approximately £100 million.
This transfer will also see AC Milan benefit, as they are set to receive over €10 million. This is due to a clause that granted them a 10% share of any future sale fee when they initially sold the midfielder to Newcastle for €60.8 million plus add-ons in 2023.
Tonali’s Deal with Tottenham is Confirmed
Leading sports news sources, including Sky Sport Italia, The Athletic, and Sportitalia, are all reporting consistent figures for the agreement, which was finalized today following extensive negotiations between the two clubs.
However, it’s noted that some of the add-ons may prove challenging to activate, as The Athletic’s David Ornstein suggests they are contingent on multiple Champions League qualifications. This presents a significant challenge for a Tottenham side that narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League last season.
Sportitalia indicates that Tonali’s rapport with manager Roberto De Zerbi was a primary factor influencing his desire to move to Tottenham Hotspur.
This transfer makes the 26-year-old the most expensive Italian player in history, with a potential total value reaching €115 million and a guaranteed minimum of €107 million.
The final financial breakdown is reported as a fixed fee of €107 million, with up to an additional €8.75 million in bonuses tied to performance.
Tonali has reportedly agreed to a six-year contract with Spurs, with an annual salary of approximately €12 million.
