Akanji Predicts De Bruyne’s Impact in Serie A 2026-27 Amidst Napoli’s Allegri Wait

Manuel Akanji, a defender for Inter, expressed his belief that Kevin De Bruyne can still exert a “significant influence” on Italian football. Akanji, speaking to Gazzetta, stated that his former Manchester City teammate was “unlucky” during his inaugural season with Napoli, attributing his limited impact to an injury and the premature conclusion of the title race upon his return.

Akanji: De Bruyne Capable of Serie A Impact in 2026-27

“I firmly believe he can still have a significant impact in Italian football, absolutely,” Akanji remarked. “Kevin is an extraordinary player and a very good friend of mine. This season, he faced misfortune with a long-term injury. By the time he recovered, the title race had already been decided. I would relish the opportunity to face Belgium and play against him, as it hasn’t happened often so far.”

De Bruyne recently generated controversy in Italy after expressing contentment with Antonio Conte’s departure from Napoli. Cristian Stellini, an assistant to the Italian manager, retorted that the Belgian had shown little enthusiasm during his initial season at the Stadio Maradona.

Meanwhile, Napoli is currently in a state of anticipation as they await the release of Massimiliano Allegri from his contract with Milan. Allegri technically remains under contract with the Rossoneri following his dismissal at the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign.

Napoli has reportedly reached an agreement with an experienced Italian coach and is awaiting his contract termination with the Rossoneri before he commences his tenure at the Stadio Maradona.
