Juventus is reportedly intensifying efforts to sign Aston Villa’s Argentine goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, this summer. In response to this looming departure, Aston Villa is said to be considering Parma’s Zion Suzuki as a potential successor.
Recent reports suggest that Juventus has reached an agreement on personal terms with Martinez, the 2022 World Cup winner, who is entering the final year of his contract with Aston Villa. While Martinez is reportedly open to a €5 million per season offer from the Italian club, a transfer fee remains a point of contention. Aston Villa is expected to demand around €15 million for the 33-year-old, whereas Juventus hopes to acquire him for a significantly lower price, perhaps even on a free transfer.
Villa May Target Suzuki if Martinez Departs
According to prominent journalist Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa has been monitoring Parma’s Zion Suzuki for several months. The Japan international is reportedly on a shortlist of three goalkeepers being evaluated by Villa as possible replacements for Martinez.
The 23-year-old Suzuki joined Parma from Urawa Red Diamonds in the summer of 2024 and has made 57 appearances for the club. He had been performing well in Serie A before a broken hand sidelined him for 16 league matches.
Further reports from Calciomercato.com indicate that Manchester City’s goalkeeper James Trafford is also among the candidates Aston Villa is considering should Martinez make the move to Juventus.
