While speculation linked Bayern Munich with a move for Atalanta’s Charles De Ketelaere, recent German reports indicate he is merely a backup option. The Bavarian club’s top priority for transfer is Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon.
De Ketelaere, the Belgian international, experienced initial struggles after his transfer from Club Brugge to Milan. However, he has since rediscovered his form since joining Atalanta.
This season, he has been a significant contributor for Atalanta, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 40 competitive matches, despite a challenging campaign for the club overall. His performance in the Champions League has also been notable, with two goals and two assists in eight appearances.
These strong performances fueled rumors of a summer transfer to Bayern Munich, a prospect that would be hard for De Ketelaere to refuse. However, German transfer expert Christian Falk clarified on CFBayern Insider that while Bayern’s interest is genuine, it has been exaggerated by the Italian press.
Falk confirmed that De Ketelaere is on Bayern’s list of potential targets, but he is not their primary choice. The club is reportedly in ongoing negotiations to sign Newcastle United midfielder Anthony Gordon.
