Xabi Alonso Reportedly Agrees Chelsea Terms Amidst Milan Interest

Sport news

While initial reports suggested Xabi Alonso was a strong candidate for the AC Milan managerial position, more recent information indicates he has reached an agreement with Premier League club Chelsea.

The 44-year-old Spanish coach is currently unattached, having seen his tenure with Real Madrid conclude abruptly on January 12th. His time with the club saw 20 wins, three draws, and five defeats, though disagreements with players reportedly led to his dismissal.

Prior to his spell at Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso guided Bayer Leverkusen to a domestic treble, narrowly missing out on the Europa League title in 2024 following a 3-0 defeat in the final to Atalanta.

Earlier this month, it was suggested that Alonso was being considered for the Milan job should Max Allegri be sacked, a club he had reportedly been approached by previously. However, Italian news outlets also pointed to Chelsea as being ahead in the race for his services.

French reporter Fabrice Hawkins from RMC Sport now claims that Chelsea and the Spanish coach have finalized personal terms for the upcoming season.

Alonso is no stranger to English football, having played for Liverpool from 2004 to 2009 during his distinguished playing career.
