Fabian Ruiz: ‘I miss Napoli and always follow them, Champions League Final tough’

Sport news

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz admits he “still misses” Napoli and consistently keeps up with their matches as he anticipates the Champions League Final against Arsenal.

The 30-year-old Spaniard made a significant impact at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona following his €30 million transfer from Real Betis in the summer of 2018. After a successful four-year spell, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2022.

Fabian Ruiz remains fond of his time at Napoli

“I always follow Napoli games, and I return there whenever I have a few days off, as I really miss it,” Fabian Ruiz shared with Sky Sport Italia. “They’ve won two Serie A titles since I left. I still have many friends there whom I speak to, and I wish them all the best. They deserve it.”

Ruiz played 166 competitive matches for Napoli, scoring 22 goals and providing 15 assists. He has now accumulated exactly 166 appearances for PSG, with 16 goals and 26 assists.

Paris Saint-Germain secured their first Champions League title last season by defeating Inter in the final. They are now aiming to retain the trophy and will face Riccardo Calafiori’s Arsenal.

“We are immensely happy to be in the Champions League Final again. We are aware of the challenges in winning the trophy, and we are up against a strong side that won the Premier League last night,” Ruiz stated. “It will be tough, but we have a lot of enthusiasm and feel ready for this occasion.”

PSG eliminated Arsenal in the semi-finals last season, with Fabian Ruiz scoring in that tie. “That was my first Champions League goal. It was a very difficult semi-final. We won both legs, but a Final is very different,” he noted. “Luis Enrique emphasizes the details in every game that can help the team win. Bayern Munich were tough opponents; I had to assist Nuno Mendes a bit defensively.”
