Leao Rejected by Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona

Sport news

Italian reports indicate that AC Milan has offered forward Rafael Leao to prominent European clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona. However, none of these clubs appear prepared to invest significantly in acquiring him at this time.

Leao’s tenure at San Siro might be nearing its conclusion, as his contract is set to expire in June 2028 with no extension in sight. This summer presents AC Milan’s final opportunity to secure a substantial transfer fee before the risk of losing him as a free agent becomes imminent.

AC Milan Seeking a Buyer for Leao

While Leao possesses a release clause reportedly set at €120 million, AC Milan would be satisfied with a fee in the region of €80-90 million for the talented yet inconsistent player. However, identifying a club willing to meet this valuation, and to which Leao would agree to move, poses a challenge.

According to Sportitalia, both AC Milan and Leao’s agent have attempted to market him to clubs that have previously expressed interest, such as Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona. These efforts have reportedly been met with a lack of serious engagement, as none of the clubs have shown a readiness to enter into deeper discussions.

Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, and Saudi Arabian clubs have also been mentioned as potential destinations. However, securing Leao’s agreement to such transfers remains uncertain. The Portuguese international, who will turn 27 next month, is at a career stage where he should be a fully developed player rather than a prospect with potential.

Despite contributing 10 goals and three assists in 30 competitive appearances this season, Leao has frequently appeared disengaged or frustrated with coach Max Allegri. His role as a centre-forward, a position dictated by the team’s 3-5-2 formation, has limited his effectiveness.

AC Milan is reportedly hoping that a strong performance from Leao in the upcoming World Cup with Portugal will enhance his market value and encourage clubs to pursue a transfer.
