Omo X: The Electric Motorcycle That Never Falls Arrives in May
Initially, the Omo X might appear to be an unusual fusion of a Yamaha TMax maxi-scooter and a Tesla Cybertruck pickup. However, upon closer examination, Omoway Technology's Omo X reveals itself as an unprecedented electric motorcycle: it is self-driving, capable of standing upright independently, and consequently, can never fall over. Omoway is a startup established by a team of Chinese engineers and entrepreneurs, including former XPeng personnel. While initial reports on this ambitious project emerged in July 2025, the company has now confirmed its market debut, with the Omo X scheduled for release starting in late May 2026.
Innovative Technology and Features
The Omo X boasts a distinctly bold design, characterized by sharp lines and substantial fairings that conceal the sophisticated core system enabling this electric scooter to self-balance. This innovative system is a Control Moment Gyroscope (CMG), akin to those employed in satellites and spacecraft. It operates by rapidly rotating a mass at a constant high speed and tilting its axis using one or two gimbals, leveraging gyroscopic precession to generate powerful control torque. To simplify, it's a highly advanced version of the stabilization technology found in extreme sports cameras or high-end smartphones.
Furthermore, the Omoway Omo X integrates advanced ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) and other cutting-edge technologies. These include front and rear cameras, a 360-degree virtual camera, anti-collision radar for adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) communication capability. This V2V technology, combined with the motorcycle's self-driving ability, suggests that the Omo X could potentially feature platooning functionality in the future, allowing multiple vehicles to drive autonomously in a convoy, maintaining a fixed distance.
Market Launch and Global Ambitions
Following an initial phase where the Omo X existed purely as a prototype, this self-balancing electric motorcycle was unveiled to the public in July of last year. However, it is only now that Omoway has announced that pre-sales will commence in April, with general sales beginning in late May. The inaugural market will be Indonesia, which also serves as the manufacturing hub for the motorcycle, with other East Asian markets expected to follow. Significant uncertainty surrounds a potential launch in Europe, where strict two-wheeler safety regulations might pose challenges for homologating such a model for road use.
While the Omo X marks the first self-balancing motorcycle to reach mass production, it is not the first ever to possess this capability. Predecessors include the 2021 Davinci DC100, which has since faded from public view, and the Honda Riding Assist-E, a 2017 concept that never progressed to production.
