AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale is reportedly keen for USMNT star Christian Pulisic to remain at the San Siro beyond the summer. Despite this desire, contract negotiations with the 27-year-old American forward have reportedly hit a snag.
Pulisic’s future with Milan remains uncertain, as his current contract is set to expire in June 2027, and discussions with the club have seen little progress in recent months. However, according to reports, Cardinale views Pulisic as a potential ‘new symbol’ for the Rossoneri in the 2026-27 season and wants him to stay.
The current stalling of contract negotiations may be linked to Pulisic’s goal drought in 2026. He is currently earning €4 million per season at Milan. Reports suggest that Pulisic’s representatives are seeking a doubling of his current wages. While Milan is unlikely to meet such a demand, Pulisic could potentially secure a salary comparable to that of teammates like Rafael Leão and Mike Maignan, which is around €7 million per season.
Furthermore, Pulisic’s role within the team could become even more central if AC Milan decides to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as their new coach. The club has reportedly already initiated discussions with the Argentine, who is expected to depart his current role after the World Cup. Pochettino, a former Tottenham Hotspur manager, is one of several candidates being considered to replace Massimiliano Allegri, following the team’s failure to qualify for the Champions League in the 2025-26 season.
Milan is undergoing a significant overhaul, with the club looking for a new coach, CEO, sporting director, and technical director, following recent dismissals. Regardless of the new appointments in leadership roles, Gerry Cardinale’s intention is to push forward the negotiations for Pulisic’s contract extension, as he is eager to personally oversee the developments.
