Italy Adds Fortini to Squad for Luxembourg and Greece Friendlies

Sport news

Fiorentina defender Niccolò Fortini will join the Italian national team for their upcoming friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece.

This is a recent addition to the squad, which is scheduled to depart for Luxembourg on Tuesday afternoon for a match on Wednesday evening. Following this, the team will return to Florence for training at Coverciano before traveling to Greece on Sunday night.

Italy Explores New Player Options

Interim coach Silvio Baldini, who has stepped up from the Under-21 team in the absence of a permanent head coach after Gennaro Gattuso’s resignation, had initially selected a 24-man squad. Last week, he also invited four additional players to train with the senior team at Coverciano: Tommaso Berti (Cesena), Niccolò Fortini (Fiorentina), Gabriele Guarino (Empoli), and Dominic Vavassori (Atalanta).

It has now been announced that Fortini will remain with the squad and participate in the two friendly fixtures, bringing the total number of players to 25. Baldini has opted to give opportunities to new faces, many of whom are uncapped, following a challenging season where Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup.
