Reports from Monday indicate that Juventus is poised to definitively sever ties with former head coach Thiago Motta. He remains on the club’s payroll despite his dismissal during the latter half of the 2024-25 season.
Juventus Prepared to Conclude Agreement with Thiago Motta
Thiago Motta was appointed as Juventus’s head coach for the 2024-25 season, succeeding Massimiliano Allegri after a strong fourth-place finish with Bologna in the preceding campaign. The Brazilian-Italian signed a three-year contract with the Bianconeri, set to expire in the summer of 2027. However, his tenure lasted less than a year, with Igor Tudor replacing him approximately two-thirds of the way through his inaugural season.
Tudor has since departed Juventus as well, with his contract being terminated in January, which allowed him to temporarily take charge at Tottenham.
Unlike Tudor, Thiago Motta has been without a coaching role since leaving Juventus. According to leading Italian news outlets, he is still receiving compensation from the club over a year after his departure.
This situation, however, may soon change. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that as of June 1st, Juventus will have the option to terminate Thiago Motta’s contract due to a clause within the agreement. It is understood that Juventus will need to pay Thiago Motta a lump sum, which is expected to be slightly less than the cost of his remaining wages, reportedly amounting to €3.5 million per year.
Once this settlement is finalized, Luciano Spalletti will be the sole head coach on the club’s current payroll.
